I'm a scholar of Ukrainian and East European culture at UCL and a literary translator. I write about memory, cities, and Ukraine's rich multicultural literary heritage.

I've written for The Atlantic, The Guardian, the Times Literary Supplement, History Today, the Literary Review, the Los Angeles Review of Books and others. I have talked about Ukraine, Russia, Poland and more on BBC Radio 4 and 5, Al Jazeera, LBC, ITV, among others. I have been cited in reporting in The Guardian, Deutsche Welle, The Irish Times, the Independent and many more.

My translations of Ukrainian authors have been published by Deep Vellum and Harvard University Press as well as in numerous anthologies, journals and magazines, including Words Without Borders, Modern Poetry in Translation, The White Review, the London Review of Books, the Guardian and more. 

I was a Leverhulme Research Fellow in 2022-23 and Paul Celan Translation Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences, Vienna in spring 2022. In 2023 I was a member of the jury for the International Booker Prize.
